In 2025, AJ Hurst Ltd marked a significant milestone—over fifty-five years of collaboration with Schneider Electric. This enduring partnership has not only shaped the trajectory of both companies but also left an indelible mark on the industrial automation landscape.

A Humble Beginning in Belfast

Founded in 1936 by Alfred Hurst and his daughter as an electrical wholesaler in Belfast, AJ Hurst Ltd began its journey in a modest office in College Square Gardens. After Alfred's passing in 1939, the business was acquired by Geoffrey Goldsbrough, an auctioneer with no prior experience in the electrical industry. Undeterred, Geoffrey's enterprising spirit propelled the company forward, setting the stage for future innovations.

The Turning Point: Enter Schneider Electric

In 1969, during a period of political unrest in Northern Ireland, AJ Hurst's path crossed with Schneider Electric's predecessor, Telemecanique. A chance cold call from Jim Keane, a representative from Telemecanique, introduced AJ Hurst to a range of motor control products. Despite the challenging circumstances, which included delivering products by bicycle through a troubled Belfast, this encounter marked the beginning of a transformative partnership.

Decades of Growth and Collaboration

Over the years, AJ Hurst expanded its offerings, becoming a trusted distributor and integrator of Schneider Electric's products. By 2010, the company had moved to larger premises at Dargan Crescent, Belfast, to accommodate its growing operations. In recognition of their expertise and commitment, Schneider Electric appointed AJ Hurst as an Alliance Industrial Automation Distributor as part of their global 'Master Partner' strategy.

This designation distinguished AJ Hurst as a specialist in industrial automation, setting it apart from standard distribution networks. The partnership was further solidified with the completion of an extensive certification program, ensuring that AJ Hurst's team was equipped with the knowledge and skills to deliver advanced automation and control solutions locally.

A Legacy of Innovation and Reliability

The collaboration between AJ Hurst and Schneider Electric has been characterized by a shared commitment to innovation and quality. From the early days of delivering TeSys contactors under challenging conditions to becoming an Alliance Certified Industrial Automation Partner, the journey reflects a dedication to meeting the evolving needs of system integrators and OEMs.

Today, AJ Hurst continues to serve as a vital link in Schneider Electric's ecosystem, offering a comprehensive range of products and services that empower industries to achieve greater efficiency and sustainability.
